GCE PSYCHOLOGY 2014

The school follows the AQA B syllabus. There is no pre-requisite for the course and students need not have studied the subject to GCSE level.

AS COURSE STRUCTURE (First year – Year 12)

UNIT 1 – INTRODUCING PSYCHOLGY

All students study the topics below which are assessed by a 1 ½ hour written examination.

  1. Key Approaches in Psychology
  2. Biopsychology
  3. Gender Development
  4. Research Methods

UNIT 2 – SOCIAL & COGNITIVE PSYCHOLOGY, INDIVIDUAL DIFFERENCES

All students study the topics below which are assessed by a 1 ½ hour written examination.

  1. Social influence or social cognition
  2. Remembering & forgetting or perceptual processes
  3. Anxiety disorders or autism

 

A2 COURSE STRUCTURE (Second year – Year 13)

UNIT 3 – CHILD DEVELOPMENT AND APPLIED OPTIONS

All students study the topics below which are assessed by a 2 hour written examination

  1. Social development of children
  2. Cognition and law
  3. Forensic psychology

UNIT 4 – APPROACHES, DEBATES AND METHODS IN PSYCHOLOGY

All students study the topics below which are assessed by a 2 hour written examination

  1. Approaches in psychology
  2. Debates in psychology
  3. Research methods in psychology
