THE SIXTH FORM DRESS CODE

No uniform is required in the Sixth Form but students are expected to dress in a smart business-like fashion.
Members of the Sixth Form at Lime House School wear clothes of their own choice; this is a privilege which is granted to encourage independence of thought and action, to develop an understanding of appropriate choice in a given context and to allow some freedom of approach to develop a personal 'style'. It can pose dilemmas, both for the individual and for the School; whether we like it or not, people are judged on appearance as well as conduct. Whilst students in the Sixth Form have the right to dress as individuals, they must appreciate their responsibility for the reputation of the School and for the setting of good examples to younger members of the community. They should not underestimate the part that appearance plays in personal and professional advancement.
Thus, we ask that the overall effect of dress should be smart rather than casual and that extremes of fashion and style should be avoided. The following criteria should be followed:

Jacket: black blazer or one matching the trousers to form a suit or one of a subdued colour of a cut similar to a school blazer. Jackets must be worn at all times outside the classroom.

Trousers: smart trousers or formal suit of a subdued colour. No trousers in the material or style of jeans of any description (denim, canvas, linen, etc. ).

Shoes: black, grey, brown or navy blue. No trainers or any footwear which could be interpreted as a trainer. No very high heels.

Skirts should be of knee length and no shorter and of a subdued colour. No visible midriff or very short skirts.

Shirt: white or light coloured, plain or striped. No sports or T- shirts. No shirts or tops with large slogans nor rugby shirts. Pullovers, if worn, should be of a subdued colour.

Tie: a school tie or a personal tie of a discreet colour and pattern. All boys must wear a tie. This is optional for girls.

No beach wear, flip flops or halter necks.

No extremes of fashion.

Earrings, nose rings and other forms of facial jewelry are not permitted as are other forms of jewelry.

Hair is to be of one natural colour. No extreme styles will be accepted. Please check with the school beforehand if necessary.

Full school uniform may be worn as an alternative if desired. A mix of school uniform and business-like dress is not permitted.

It is expected that everyone will dress for work. Whilst we believe that there should be room for personal choice, the 'line' between acceptable and unacceptable dress can be blurred; we cannot accept 'looks' which are more suitable for pursuits other than business work.

SCHOOL CLOTHING LIST

The following uniform list applies to all pupils below sixth-form level.

Parents of day pupils should ignore irrelevant items such as holdalls, tuck-boxes, pajamas, etc.

School regulation uniform items cannot be varied. The list is compulsory and takes into account the fact that pupils remain in school uniform or track suits throughout the course of the day. This keeps the use of play clothes to a minimum as they are worn at weekends only.

ALL ITEMS SHOULD BE CLEARLY LABELED WITH 'SEW-ON' NAME TAGS.
